Cell Phone Policy
Cell Phone Policy Update
Introduction
The Red Clay Consolidated School District recognizes the prevalence of electronic communication devices, such as cell phones, among students. While these devices offer safety and security through direct communication, their use during school hours can disrupt the educational environment. Additionally, during emergencies or drills, unauthorized use may lead to misinformation or interfere with safety procedures.
Policy for Schools
-
Grades Without High School Configurations: Students are required to keep electronic devices off and stored away during instructional hours. Any use of devices is considered unauthorized. Devices should be kept in pockets, secured bookbags, or lockers.
-
High School Configurations: Each high school will establish its own policy regarding device usage, specifying authorized and unauthorized areas and times. Classroom use is unauthorized unless permitted by the teacher. Usage should be minimal during instructional periods.
Loss and Theft
Students are responsible for securing their electronic devices. The district is not liable for any loss or theft.
Communication and Implementation
The policy and specific authorized areas will be communicated to students and parents at the beginning of each academic year.
Educational Accommodations
This policy does not impact accommodations provided to students by educational teams.
This updated policy aims to balance the safety benefits of communication devices with the need for an effective learning environment.
